Breakin’ Convention 2009 is all but a distant memory. Move over last year’s acts, because Breakin’ Convention 2010 is on it’s way.

This year’s show features scores of performances featuring a mix of old school favourites, stars from recent TV shows and international acts. All the elements of hip hop dance will be covered, from locking to breaking and the resurging style of waacking.

From Japan come Hilty and Bosch, a pair of outstanding lockers making their debut performance in the UK, while French breaking crew Phase T, who performed at Sadler’s Wells Sampled in January, will perform a complete version of Trop Tard. Mr Steen checks in to Breakin’ Convention again to perform a popping piece, plus Phax and winners of Denmark’s Got Talent Robot Boys.

UK continue to represent hip hop theatre as Bad Taste Cru from Northern Ireland and Belfast perform Council of the Ordinary and Unity and Unity Youth explore domestic violence in their set entitled Venus vs Mars Part 2. House of the Quiet Storm have also reunited to perform School of ’82 and give the audience a flavour of what UK popping is about.

Adiaspora, a collaboration between Uchenna Dance and Alesandra Seutin, will perform Frusted, their powerful group piece which we saw at Local International, while in similar frustration, Live Vibe favourites Woolwich Krumpers explore their identity as men, all sure to be moving stuff.

Core to Breakin’ Convention 2010 will be the Greg Campbellock tribute on Monday. Campbellock, accredited with invening the style of locking and a legendary funkstyler, passed away earlier this year. Included in the tribute will be appearances from many of the acts over the Breakin’ Convention weekend led by Suga Pop of the Electric Boogaloos alongside many of his co-pioneers and past students: Poppin’ Pete, Lockadelic, Flo Master, Sun Sun and more.
