Sampled is Sadler’s Wells’ annual preview of performances in their upcoming season. Most exciting for us, this year will see  a special previewing of extracts from ZooNation’s successor to Into the HoodsSome Like It Hip Hop.

It has been no more than a year since the milestone in hip hop theatre, Into the Hoods drew to an end. As ZooNation‘s last and most successful show they will have huge expectations when Some Like It Hip Hop debuts this summer.

The talent of Tommy Franzén, Carrie Anne Ingrouille and Ryan Chappell, who observers of recent Sadler’s Wells productions will recognise from Blaze: The Street Dance Sensation, have been drafted in to help with choreography in the new production, while recent auditions for ZooNation have been looking for “accomplished singers, dancers and musicians to join their company.” Are you as intrigued as we are?

Tommy Franzén, choreographer and dancer in the show, said last December: “We are really looking forward to performing a taster of Some Like It Hip Hop at Sampled 2011 at Sadler’s Wells. Next year is going to be an exciting year bringing the full show to life.”

Tommy will also star alongside So You Think You Can Dance contestant Lizzie Gough and Streetdance 3D actress Teneisha Bonner, who recently collaborated with Kate Prince for the Sadler’s Wells production of Shoes, so there’s plenty to get excited about.

As well as extracts of Some Like It Hip Hop, Sadler’s Wells Sampled also includes preview performances from James Wilton, winner of the Sadler’s Wells Global Dance Contest, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, American Ballet Theatre and Balletboyz, plus pre and post show workshops in contemporary, ballet, street dance and flamenco dance styles with the artists.

Tickets for Sampled always run out quickly, so it’s best to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Sadler’s Wells Sampled 2011 takes place at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue, London, on 28 and 29 January. Tickets are £12 seated or £6 standing and can be bought from SadlersWells.com. Workshop places are £5 and can also be booked online.
