To the uninitiated, the numbers 18, 16 and 32 refers to the bar lines in grime music. Following the stories of four emcess living a life of grime, 8Sixteen32 explores the aspirations and excitement of the grime scene – making a name, finding individuality – while also exploring the interests of coporate companies who don’t seem to ‘get’ the UK’s underground music scene.
8SIXTEEN32 is the dramatised story of this ‘life of grime’ surrounding the latest, desireable new phone, the N81632, sold using grime music to market it. Set pieces take place in the Street, Yard and Club as a back drop to add the excitement and illustrate the music. The show is based on the writing of hip-hop poet and spoken word luminary Polarbear. Music is provided throughout by critically acclaimed broken-beats jazzman Mark De Clive-Lowe.
