“I am so happy to be part of Into the Hoods,” said Akai. “It’s an amazing opportunity and I am going to enjoy everyminute of it!”

Into the Hoods is the popular hip hop theatre dance show loosely based on Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. After successful runs in London’s West End at the Peacock Theatre, then later returning to the Novello, Zoonation will enjoy a repeat run at the Southbank Centre since they moved in to the Royal Festival Hall in December 2009.

Since winning Got to Dance on Sky 1 Akai has starred in music videos and even had a cameo in Streetdance 3D. In Into the Hoods Akai stars as one of the school children who gets lost after taking the wrong bus, finding themselves on the Ruff Endz Estate, where love between characters blossoms and spontaneous battles break out in the street. In order to get home they have to find gifts for the nasty Landlord’s daughter, Rap-on-Zell, savvy savvy?

Choreographer and artistic director for Into the Hoods, Kate Prince describes Akai as “an exceptionally talented youngman, with lots of charisma and is a very accomplished dancer for his age.”

Those who missed Into the Hoods last time won’t want to miss it this time. Since the explosion in popularity of street dancing, this run will be sure to sell out, but also one of the last before Zoonation focus on their new production Some Like It Hip Hop slated for 2011.

Into the Hoods takes place at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre from 30 July-15 August. Tickets range from £15 – £27.50 and can be bought online or by calling 0844 875 0073.

  1. In the hood was absolutely fantastic best show I have seen in ages but I was a bit disappointed that there was not a CD of the music showcased for sale after the show. I am sure loads of people would have brought the CD. Any chance of one being produced.
