Step Up: The Official Dance Workout DVD review – born from a boom box?

Tweet Step Up is bringing its franchise to our living rooms again – this time with a fitness DVD encouraging people born from a boom box to get fit while looking good with Step Up: The Official Dance Work Out. Like the films, this is an incredibly glossy DVD, with the dancers looking like Abercrombie and Fitch models that raided Nike Town before filming, representing the full range of a Pineapple Studio dancer stereotype, from swagger to … Read entire article »

This Is South Coast – Brighton hip hop documentary DVD review

This Is South Coast – Brighton hip hop documentary DVD review

Tweet Londoners can sometimes be closed minded when it comes to life beyond the realms of the M25. London Town has a diverse cosmopolitan lifestyle and music scene making it easy to forget there’s life outside of the city borders, and until recently I only realised that the same attitude extends to hip hop as well. This Is South Coast is an independent documentary by Fractured Films about the Brighton hip hop scene. Although filmed in 2008 … Read entire article »

Streetdance 3D DVD and extra features review

Vanilla Ice Cool As Ice DVD review

Tweet By modern musician-turned-film star standards there’s usually a precedent: Before Eminem there was Vanilla Ice. Before 8 Mile there was Cool As Ice. And before Jedward there was no need to worry about the comeback cash-ins. Cue the re-release of the Iceman’s silver screen debut. Like a DJ sampling old vinyl classics Cold As Ice remixes Rebel Without a Cause with 90s rap clichés seeing Ice assuming the role of Johnny, a peroxide prone James Dean during the MC Hammer era. When one of Ice’s homies’ motorbikes breaks down the, the crew – more Biker Mice than Hell’s Angels – have no choice but to chill in town (the middle class ‘hood’) perfecting their dance routines and nodding their heads to hyped up house music. Its not long before Ice spots Kathy, with … Read entire article »
